so
y=0.5x+c

To find c, insert (1,-2) into the equation (x=1, y=-2), as the line passes through this point.

-2=0.5(1)+c
c=-1.5

So

y=0.5x-1.5

insert y=0

0=0.5x-1.5
1.5=0.5x
x=3
