Which two transformations can map Figure 1 onto Figure 2? reflection across the y-axis followed by translation 10 units down reflection across the y-axis followed by reflection across x-axis reflection across the x-axis followed by reflection across y-axis translation 11 units left followed by translation 10 units down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Definitely reflection followed by translation down. Just look at it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what i thought but i was thinking maybe the 2nd one could be right as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good point, could be both. I'd have to sketch it and I'm involved in another problem. Do the reflection across y-axis and then look carefully at the other...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see a problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The bottom of the p'gram 1 is at (6,2) y reflection would give -6, 2 so both of the first two look wrong b/c they would retain x = -6 Do you see that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C doesn't work for the same reason.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D doesn't work b/c the shape is different. It is reflected through y. I think the problem is bad.

OpenStudy (turingtest):

I'm not sure what telliot thought was the problem, I think he was right the first time reflection followed by translation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The problem is that the vertex at 6,2 ends up at x = -5

OpenStudy (turingtest):

that's the vertex (5,8) isn't it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Arghh..

OpenStudy (turingtest):

mwahaha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dr. Evil where did you come from...

OpenStudy (turingtest):

At least all I did was point out that you were correct this time :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually, I believe I have seen mini-me here once or twice :)
