Is the following written in scientific notation? 0.84 x 10^6 Yes or No? Ja or Nein? Oui ou Non?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Je crois "oui" I believe it's "Yes" is this accurate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no! the first digit must be greater than 1!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not 0.84...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In the scientific notation, can the exponents be in the negative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, then I have clue how to identify the scientific notation in this problem. a. 7.8 x 10^-5 b. 3.4 x 100^2 c. 0.84 x 10^6 d. 50 x 50^-12 Could it be.... a? But I'm not sure....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you! I only said that because I feel that the second number has to have 10. :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, and I made a mistake. d is 50 x 10^-12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it still can't be d...since 50 is not between 1 and 10! remember...the sign can be negative but the digit must be between 1 and 10!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, thank you. Another problem. Writing 33,400 in the scientific notation... Would it be 3.34 x 10^4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes! u got it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Woo! Thank you! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

glad to help!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And 0.00803 is 8.03 x 10^-3 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes!
