Despite the cultural domination instituted by European traders and colonizers, how do you think these Mesoamerican, South American, and African societies have been able to sustain their cultural practices?

Though European traders/colonizers often had direct control over those societies, many of them kept their cultures intact through, and have done so well because they have more control over their personal/family lives and still live in the same place. Thus, they can maintain customs.
