At an auto show, a car dealer asked the first 10 visitors their ages and the kinds of cars they own. The Venn diagram shows the details. http://learn.flvs.net/webdav/assessment_images/educator_algebra1_v14/03_11_26.jpg Based on the diagram, which of the following represents the ages of car owners in the set (A ∩ B) ∪ (~A ∩ C) ? a.{28, 29, 33, 47, 56} b.{28, 29, 32, 47, 56} c.{28, 29, 32, 33, 47, 56} d.{28, 29, 33, 37, 47, 56}
First find from the diagram A intersect B ={29} Then find ~A={28,33,37,47,56} from which 37 is out when intersected with C. to get ~A intersect C Combine A intersect B with ~A intersect C to get the union.
i dont understand how to do it
The set S represents the elements present in sugar. S = {carbon, hydrogen, oxygen} The set C represents the elements present in carbon dioxide gas. C = {carbon, oxygen} How many elements are in the set S ∪ C? 1 2 3 5
i dont understand that question eaither
There are a few definitions in sets that you need to get familiar with, such as union intersection complement and the notations, example: A={carbon, oxygen} means the set A contains the elements carbon and oxygen only. If B={carbon, oxygen, hydrogen} Then A U B is the sum of the two, with duplicate elements not repeated, so AUB={carbon, oxygen,hydrogen} A intersect B is a set containing elements that are common to both, so A intersect B = {carbon, oxygen} ~A contains everything existing (i.e. all possible elements) that is NOT in A. All this can be represented by Venn diagrams, see for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venn_diagram
