I have to give a seminar on ethical hacking and information security. It is very important for my master degree's grades and career. I am in dilemma of how to start the seminar. Should i start by showing some fancy hacks or anything else. I know i thing, well begin is half done. So, please guide me .... If you have attended any such seminar before than pls share your experience or suggest ideas. Thanks in advance.
You could watch some of the presentation videos coming out of DEF CON to get a few ideas. For example, this video by Jason Scott is a good, leisurely talk on the history of software piracy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5AceLYWE1Q If you already have, just keep it simple and focused on what you want to talk about. In Scott's case, he talks on serious facts while keeping it fun and amusing at the same time - everything grounded n the factual examples he brings to the table. So showing, or bringing, a number of examples is a good idea. And if you're using slides, do your best not to read from them verbatim. Introduce, explain, and extrapolate the larger picture using them only as a springboard. Your audience is there, first and foremost, to learn what you have to say. Hope that these suggestions help!
