Are any parasitic diseases directly communicable from person to person? If so, how are they transmitted? What kinds of precautions should be taken in caring for persons with directly transmissible parasitic infections?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, some are.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there all contact like mrsa right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, but could you repeat that? I don't understand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the diseases they would be all contact diseases not airborne like mrsa

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can't think of any airborne parasites. The ones that I can think of that can be directly transmitted from person to person generally go the same way... and it's a fairly predictable way for a gut parasite. Note: a lot of parasites are NOT directly communicable from person to person. Parasites frequently have a second (or even third) host that they have to spend part of their life cycle inside before they can infect another human host.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o wow i did not know that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So.. uh... did you get my hint about how such human-to-human parasites might be transmitted?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya it directly dont go from one person to the next person

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just said that some of them do.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The question is about the subset of parasites that can go directly from one human to another.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The obvious ones that I can think of are mostly gut parasites... specifically gut parasites that go in and out via the most obvious routes (hint hint). There are also parasites that live on/in the skin (and I do mean in: they dig little tunnels in the skin and then poop a lot).

ok
