Work the item as directed. Find the common solution algebraically of 2x - 4y = 10 and 7x - 9y = 12. For this do I have to make the x or y in one problem = 0 and then solve from there and then that answer I plug into the other equation to find x or y (whichever I didn't originally). And then is the answer in this form: (x,y)? Thanks! I sure hope I made sense..

Here is a video that shows how to do these problems http://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra/systems-of-eq-and-ineq/v/solving-systems-by-elimination (and the ones after this one are also relevant)
