if ((3/4)-(2/3)) + ((1/2)+(2/3)) is calculated and the answer reduced to simplest terms, what is the denominator of the resulting fraction? A. 24 B. 12 C. 6 D. 4 E. 3 the answer is D right?
try again :)
okay it says its b but how? im like very mad
ill explain :)
-(2/3) + (2/3) cancel and ur left with (3/4) + (1/2) right?
\[({3\over4}-{2\over 3}) + ({1\over2}+{2\over 3})\]find common denominators\[({9\over12}-{8\over 12}) + ({3\over6}+{4\over 6})\]combine like terms\[{1\over12} +{1\over 6}\]find common denominator\[{1\over12} +{2\over 12}\]combine like terms\[{3\over 12}\] and so as you can see the common denominator ends up being 12 :)
though if you simplify you end up with \[1\over 4\]
exactly so shudnt it b 4????
typo in the solutions?
hmm i think completeidiot is right
thats what im thinking... lol i been doing practice test from my college and ive had lots of answers turn out wrong... its making me want to see my test graded infront of me if i do bad... and i know i can prove almost all of there questions wrong when they are wrong heres the link to the question and answer question 3 http://www.austincc.edu/support/assessment/documents/numerical.pdf
(3/6)+(4/6) is not 1/6
look at it and tell me what it says the answer is to number 3 is..
omg i meant to write 7 :O
i got 15/12 which can be simplified to 5/4 and its asking in simplest terms sooooo
\[{1\over 12}+{7\over 6}\]\[{1\over 12}+{14\over 12}\]\[={15\over 12}\]
you get 5/4 like me right.. and 4 is the denomiator... so this means who ever puts up theese questions does it wrong
im wondering if i shud even continue theese practice test.. it seems it has errors
@Goten77, if you're doing online school, maybe you should consider a different school. I think FLVS and Keystone are popular.
omg FLVS isnt working :(( ....i was in the middle of a lesson n it shut off and now chrome wont open it back up =.=
its not a online school.... basically im just doing theese little practice math test cause tomorrow i gotta do a real 1.... and its created/distributed by the same college... and like eh this is just whats happening so far
its for my college math level placement stuff.... ive done calculus b4 so this stuff is ez but it frustrated me wen i c the answer is marked wrong, then i think im doing something wrong so i just ask people here 2 b my eye witness's
Fractions are easy enough such that you should be able to recognize whether or not you're doing something wrong or right.
