\[({3\over4}-{2\over 3}) + ({1\over2}+{2\over 3})\]find common denominators\[({9\over12}-{8\over 12}) + ({3\over6}+{4\over 6})\]combine like terms\[{1\over12} +{1\over 6}\]find common denominator\[{1\over12} +{2\over 12}\]combine like terms\[{3\over 12}\]
and so as you can see the common denominator ends up being 12 :)
