How many different arrangements can be made with the letters in the word GAME? just curious

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 4!

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well it depends on replacement ...

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

There is a formula for this

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

look up counting techniques or combinatorics.... thats the branch of maths this falls into

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would the answer be 16? @campbell_st @swissgirl

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

i though 20

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

i thought*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how? @swissgirl

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

I think 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 12 x 2 = for the answer

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

since in the first place there are 4 options in second place there is only 3 options cuz the first one is taken and then in third place there is only 2 options since the fisrt 2 have been decided and then the last place there is only one option left so that is 4*3*2*1=24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@campbell_st im pretty sure you are right because of the choices their is no 16 or 20 but their is24

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

whhhoooppppsssssss bad arithmetic mistake there lol its 24 uughhhh I am a math major and i cant multiply lol

OpenStudy (swissgirl):

This is a fun math I actually like it. Better than what I am studying now -_-

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

this can become a difficult topic, but glad to hear you enjoy it..

OpenStudy (swissgirl):
