in the small triangles, the angles that are not 90 degrees are 45 degrees. If you drop a line from point E, by similar triangles you will find that the two angles that add to give angle GEC are also 45, so GEC is 90.
The combined diameters are 16.
I believe that should give you enough to solve the problem.
i got (b) 16 + 16 square root 2
