7. A major US city reports a 12% increase in decoration sales during the yearly holiday season. If decoration sales were 8 million in 1998, how much did the city report in total decoration sales by the end of 2004? (1 point)
I just dont know how to explain why you would solve this with a geometric series formula
the directions dont even say you need to solve, only that you need to explain why you use the formula that you do
8 million * 0.12 = increase /year now multiply it with number of years between 1998 to 2004 then add it to 8 million :)
but how would you explain why you used the geometric series formula for this specific problem
isnt it arthmetic?
oh i thought it was geometric series
No the increase will be different each year because the percentage increase is accumulated each year and that will affect the outcome of the next year so yes @iamawfulatmath3 I think you are right that it might be a geo series
no it is arthmetic as always every year 12% of amount is added
oh okay perfect thank you!
The increase will not be the same the first year as it would be the second year so it's not arithmetic
For example let's say that initially we had 100 the first year....a 12% increase will be 112 for the second year You then have to take a 12% increase of 112 not 100 for the third year.
A fireplace contains 46 bricks along its bottom row. If each row above decreases by 4 bricks, how many bricks are on the 12th row?
so this one would be arithmetic sequence right
because the amount of decrease remains the same and the ratio between the set of numbers stays the same aswell?
yes you are correct.
