LED stands for Light Emitting Diode which consists of a chip of semiconducting material doped with impurities to create a p-n junction. They are produced in a variety of shapes and sizes and the color of the plastic lens is the same as the actual light emitted.

led emits light with input as electricity,it means it converts elctricl input to optical output..it works in forward biased region..
