Is the following number rational or irrational? -0.25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

irrational

Parth (parthkohli):

How do you find it irrational?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The definition of a rational number is that it can be written as:\[p/q\] where p and q are both integers. Can you write it like that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

Parth (parthkohli):

Like if you can say a number in two seconds, then it is always rational. Minus two point five. Took me a second lol

Parth (parthkohli):

But you'd take forever to say \(\pi\) in its digits, so it is irrational.

OpenStudy (goformit100):

rational number are those which are not further divisible or they are non terminating

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank You! :)

Parth (parthkohli):

But there are some exceptions like 0.123123123123 which is a rational number, but not to think too hard about this one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright.. can you help me with some other problems please :)
