Find the distance between the points (-4, -5) and (3, -1). got √17.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

how did you come to that?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

spose we "move" the points such that one of them is at the origin 0,0 (-4, -5) and (3, -1). +4 +5 +4 +5 ------- -------- 0,0 7 , 4 7 and 4 are the "legs" if a right triangle now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

√37?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

7^2 + 4^2 = 49+16 so its greater than 37

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm.. √65??

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yep, and im not sure if that the simplified form of it; but yes
