Need Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Select the ordered pair from the choices below that satisfies the following system of equations: 3x − 4y = 18 5y = x − 28

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i jus need to knoe if its one of these (4, -3/2) (5, -3/4) (-2, -6) (-6, -9)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(4, -3/2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's the third ordered pair

hero (hero):

Have you tried actually solving the system @CrisYB ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve the system of equations. Which method do you know so far?

hero (hero):

For starters, you can rewrite the system as such 3x - 4y = 18 x - 5y = 28

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^ not if you are using the substitution method and you are solving for y on the second equation

hero (hero):

You mean you can solve for x in the second equation

hero (hero):

But you can also use elimination method

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but @hero's method works perfectly. i solved for y and got the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Whatever you just can't assume that your method is the best way to solving the problem @Hero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and he's suggesting a method, not assuming. remember don't assume @RyanL.

hero (hero):

I didn't assume anything @RyanL.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then why did you bother doing the elimination method then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why did you bother to do so much work by moving variables around so the equation could equal x. I just don't get it

hero (hero):

I like having one consistent method, so I usually end up isolating y in both equations, then setting y = y and solving for x.
