I know that the smaller triangle to the bugger one is tripled but I can't figure out the answer

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you're right bigger triangle dimensions are 3 times bigger than smaller. very good observation !!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

now question is asking to find ratio of areas right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yupp

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

IF dimensions of bigger triangle are k times bigger, area will be k^2 times bigger.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 1:9

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you said dimensions of bigger triangle are 3 times larger than the smaller one. so area will be 3^2 = 9 times big so ratio between BIG : SMALL = 9 : 1

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yep you're also almost right. just you took the ratio for SMALL : BIG

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooh okay thanks!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
