How do you simplify using the distributive property -(4b - 8)

OpenStudy (shane_b):

Distribute the - sign to both terms: (-1)(4b)+(-1)(-8)=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

very carefully? :D

First write that -8 as a -(+8) ... it means the same thing but it's easier to work with. \[-(4b-(+8))\]'Distribute' the negative to all terms, meaning multiply that negative by all terms, so first multiply it by the 4b then multiply it by the +8 and keep that middle negative sign where it is. \[(-)(4b)-(-)(+8)\] \[-4b-(-8)\]\[-4b+8\]
