what is the significance of an Archipelago to World History?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I feel like this is more of a geography and environmental interaction question. The idea is that an Archipelago will change how people react to their environment and thus their culture. History will naturally follow suit. Placement will often decide what occurs in history. Imagine the Romans trying to conquer much of Europe from Samoa. What ever a people are given through their environment will be how they develop and naturally it forms the grand scheme of what we call World History.
