A moving company charges a base rate of $55.00 plus $20.00 per hour. If the moving company charged Mr. Sanchez $110.00, which equation could be used to determine the number of hours it took the moving company? (h = hour)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If we let 'T' be the total amount of money charged by the moving company and h=hour as it says in the question: T = 20(h) + 55 We can do this because the variable 'h' changes so we can sub in any value we like and 55 dollars will always be the same. Going back to the question, since it took Mr. Sanchez $110.00, this is our 'T'. Therefore, 110.00 = 20(h) + 55 Solving for h, by subtracting 55 from both sides, and then dividing through by 20, we get: h = 2.75 hours. Which is 2 hours and 45 minutes.
