Which of the following are independent pairs of events? Check all that apply. A.Flipping two coins and having one show a head and the other show a head B.Being sneezed on and catching a cold C.When rolling a pair of dice, getting a total of 6 and having one die show a 3 D.Rolling a 4 on one die and rolling a 2 on another die E.Seeing clouds and winning the lottery

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would guess A, C, D. but i could be wrong..

hartnn (hartnn):

independent events meand one event which does not depend on other....now think logically...if u sneeze, can u get cold?whatever is reply, are these two dependent....think similarly for others...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So i'm looking for events that basically have nothing to do with each other?

hartnn (hartnn):

yesss :) like seeing clouds have nothing to do with lottery, isn't it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. What about A?

hartnn (hartnn):

if u flip two coins, what are possible outcomes??can one of them show head and other tail??can u see any relation in these?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't see a relation. What does flipping two coins have to do with one another?

hartnn (hartnn):

exactly, getting a head on one does not depend whether theres a tail or head on other...so independent...same goes with D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, our only answers would be A and D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i mean A D and E

hartnn (hartnn):

yess :) because getting a total of 6 depends on whether one of it is 3,so c is dependent,B is obviously dependent....
