A concession stand charges $2.00 per soda and $0.50 per candy bar. Write an expression for the amount of money you would need to buy x sodas and y candy bars.

Parth (parthkohli):

If you were to buy \(x\) sodas, then you would have paid \(2 \times x\) or \(2x\). If you were to buy \(y\) candy bars, then you would have paid \(0.5\times x\) or \(0.5x\) You are basically buying both in different number, so the key is just adding because you can't do much about it.

Parth (parthkohli):

So just add \(2x\) and \(0.5y\), and that is pretty much it.

Parth (parthkohli):

I meant \(0.5y\) initially, though.
