y=-(2/3)(30)+30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats 30 divided by 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10, i know the answer i just cant seem to get the steps right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats 2*10 then whats 20 * -1 then whats -20 +30 those are the steps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dont you move over the 30 first so its -30=-(2/3)(30)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the steps come from this wonderful pneumonic PEMDAS- parenthesis- exponent-multiplication-division-addition- subtraction or BOMDAS-brackets- orders- multi ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it really doesnt matter, its called the communative property of multiplication basically you can multiply in any order you'd like say if we had a, b, and c and we multiply them together a*b*c=a*c*b=b*a*c=b*c*a=...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so it -2/3(30) first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

division is essentially the same thing as multiplication and addition is essentially the same thing as subtraction ex. dividing by 5 is equal to multiplying by 1/5 ex. subtracting by 3 is equal to adding by -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so since -(2/3)(30)=20 you get -30=-20 then -30 plus 20 is -10 what about the negative sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it just stays there, why would you need to do anything about the negative sign?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

eevermind, its -20 plus 30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!
