What does it mean for a number to be the "solution" to an equation? Give an example of a variable equation and its solution. Explain in complete sentences how you know that number is the solution. wounldnt this be the answer to an equation ?

It means that the number that you have is the answer to the problem.

So, if you have an equation like 3x+2x=12, then you would solve. The answer would be 2 so 2 is the solution.
