'A' is definitely wrong cz natural selection take place for long period of time, not shirt period of time. 'B' and 'C' has some connection. Fossil does explain how life in ancient time, how is the condition of environment in ancient time (can be seen in Darwin finches example, try to google on that for more info), and natural selection finally eliminate those species that cannot survive in environment that are constantly changing. But if u are answering MCQ, 'B' is the most appropriate answer.

B is the correct answer because natural selection what we call it as survival of the fittest . only when organisms adapt to the environment (fit) they can reproduce and increase the population. organism changes their attributes, phenotypic expression and  other features according to the surrounding which ultimately results in origin of new species .

though fossils helps us to study how the organism originated .

 has nothing to do with natural selection
