what were the motives of columbus and his exploration of the new world?
He wanted gold, spices, and glory. He did want to spread Christianity for he believed in an idea that the Earth was about to end soon. So he decided to try and convert as many people as possible in order to "save" their souls.
What they said ^ His motives were more economic than anything else - he actually miscalculated the circumference of Earth, and, thinking he'd land in India, ended up 'discovering' North America.
