What is the equation of the line, in slope-intercept form, that passes through the point (4, -1) and is perpendicular to the line whose equation is 2x - y - 7 = 0?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y = 2x+ 1?

hartnn (hartnn):

since perpendicular lines have product of their slopes as -1,your answer does not seem to be correct....give it a one more shot....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y = -1/2x+ 1?

hartnn (hartnn):

yes :) now u verify,product of x-co-ordinates is -1 indeed,so perpendicular...and (4,-1) also satisfies your line equation....
