The graph shown is the solution set for which of the inequalities given below?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. y≤ |x| - 2 b. y< |x+ 2| c. y≤ |x+ 2|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think a because its going left.. am i right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you check again @amistre64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

have you learned about shifts in graphs yet?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

some clues in the graph i see are: there is a solid line used so we want a solid line in our "equation"; so that narrows it to a to c

OpenStudy (amistre64):

at x=-2; y=0 in both of them, so that doesnt help narrow it down, let choose another point to test, lets use the y intercept instead. when x=0, what does y equal on the graph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

+2?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a. y ≤ |0| - 2 = -2 c. y ≤ |0+2| = 2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes, so when x=0, we want a value of +2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y≤ |x+ 2|

OpenStudy (amistre64):

correct
