How many edges does a hexagonal pyramid have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7 faces - 6 sides and a base. 7 vertices - 6 around he base and 1 at the apex 14 edges = 7 around the base and one for each vertex joined to the apex.

thanks alot!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

welcome :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

edges of hexagonal pyramid... i don't think there's 14 edges...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

than how many??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since the base has 6 sides, there are 6 edges along the base. the other edges would come from each vertex of the hexagon leading up to the apex of the pyramid... how many vertices does a hexagon have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6 vertices

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let's do a simple case... if the base was triangular, there would be 3 edges from the base, and 3 edges leading up to the apex of the pyramid for a total of 6 edges. if the base was square, there would be 4 edges from the base, and 4 edges leading up to the apex of the pyramid for a total of 8 edges...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since the base is hexagonal (a hexagon), there would be 6 edges along the perimeter of the base and 6 more from each vertex along the base leading up to the apex of the pyramid.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would the answer be 19 edges???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for my question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no... not 19 edges...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12??

thanks!!
