Determine if -2x+1/7x is a polynomial and if so how many terms and variable are there? What is the degree I got It is a polynomial and there are 3 terms and 1 variable and the degree is 2. Is that right?

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

The 1/7x term keeps it from being a polynomial. There are two terms, and since it's not a polynomial the question of degree is moot.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Will thar always be the case when fractions are included?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am assuming that it is \[\frac{-2x+1}{7x}\]but as @NoelGreco said, it is not a polynomial

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

No. If the second term were 1/7 times x (x not in the denominator) it would be a polynomial.

Thank you for the clarification.

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

sure
