What prompted cultural misunderstandings between Europeans and Native Americans?

It was in their views of nature and land . To the Europeans when they got off their boats and saw empty land they saw land not "owned" or fenced by another. They came from a world where the land was owned and fenced. To see vast open spaces meant that they could claim what they wanted. To the native Americans living in this land no one could own the land. There was no idea or word for ownership. The land was to be taken care of by all and so were the animals. These two cultural ideas were in complete conflict with each other.
