If y = 3 when x = 2. find x when y = 5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is this still the direct variation problem? We need an equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, but different WS. "In Excersises 25-27, y varies directly as x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Awesome, then y=kx y=3, x=2 3=2k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oohhhhhhh. That makes sense.....-feels like an idiot-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

After you find k, put it back into y=kx with y=5 and solve for x. Not an idiot... you have to wait for that moment when it just clicks. ;)

Ok, thanks!
