I'm getting a "Bad Magic Number" error when I try to import SM.sm - Is there any way to get around this given that only the .pyc files are included in the library?

I can answer my own question - I was using Python 2.7 instead of 2.6, which creates issues with the library files. I got around this by using virtualenv to create a virtual environment where I can run scripts using Python 2.6.
