Hans Christian Andersen used irony in his story "The Emperor's New Clothes" to develop his characters and theme. Identify one example of verbal or situational irony and explain how it helped develop one of his characters or the theme of the story. Your written response should include a minimum of 5-6 sentences.

Verbal irony is someone saying something, but meaning something else, like, "I love you." While saying it in a hateful or spiteful manner. Situational irony is when the result of an action is different from what you want or expected to happen. Such as, you go to shoot someone, but you miss and the bullet bounces around before killing you.
