factor the numerator into: (y-4)(y+3) factor the denominator into: (y-5)(y+3) Since you can cancel out the common factor of (y+3), the result is:\[\frac{y-4}{y-5}\] [there is still the restraint that y cannot be -3, but that probably doesn't matter here.]
