Solve for x: −2(x + 3) = −2(x + 1) − 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Distribute out the numbers outside the parentheses and then simplify accordingly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What would you get after distribute out the numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2x + 3 = -2x + 1 - 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would that be correct or no?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You do part of it −2(x + 3) This means you have to multiply the -2 to the x and you get -2x so you did that part right. But you are suppose to multiply -2 to +3 also. That would get you -6 So the left side is actually. -2x - 6 instead of -2x + 3 which is what you wrote. You also did this mistake on the right side. Can you fix it and tell me what you get?
