How did being a journalist influence Vonnegut's writing?
He pretty much got bored of it and realized that he need to do something interesting and creative. One of his assignments was to write about a horse running away. Vonnegut would simply stare at his typewriter for an entire day before finally turning in a copy to his boss. On it, he simply wrote " The horse jumped over the fluttering fence".
Search up the phrase " The horse jumped over the fluttering fence". to find out what the quote actually means. The filters won;t let me write it.
It was during the post-war era when everybody when just wanted a good life but exchanged an interesting life for conformity and convenience. The journalism job came after Vonnegut's war years when he experienced a substantial amount as a young man. I'm sure the boredom of being a journalist just got to him.
