Select the inequality that corresponds to the given graph.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5x + 7 >= 2 and 10x <= 30 6x + 7 >= 25 or 2x - 8 < -4 4x + 10 <= 6 or 5x - 6 >= 14 37 <= 8x - 3 >= 61

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it meant to be the blue or yellow portion?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the blue

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, you can test them individually. 5x + 7 >= 2 we replace x with -2 and find -3 >= 2 which is obviously false 6x + 7 >= 25 same thing, replacing x with -2 we get -5 >= 25, false as well 4x + 10 <= 6 x = -2 this gives us 2 <= 6 which is true! now with x = 6, this gives us 34 <= 6 which is false and so on.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Try and derive an inequality from the picture and see if it matches any listed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so C?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, as it only applies to the negative portion of the graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

srry i just dont get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok look at first set A: solve each seperately as you normally do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the idea is to draw both set of solutions on one graph... 5x + 7 >= 2 thus x>=-1 10x <= 30 x<= 3 this is not true for your graph!!! so not A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5x + 7 >= 2 and 10x <= 30 -7 -7 5x >= -5 5 5 x >= -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

forgot the rest :PPP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the word and in between means it must be true for both, like overlap!! Go towards each other...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It cant be B right because its just the < sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now look at B: 6x + 7 >= 25 or 2x - 8 < -4 6x >= 25-7 2x < -4+8 6x>=18 2x<4 x>= 6 x<2 which is also not true for your graph! As

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when drawing both solutions on the same graph it doesn't look the same as your graph!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thus not B either

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4x + 10 <= 6 or 5x - 6 >= 14 -10 -10 +6 +6 4x <= -4 5x >= 20 4 4 5 5 x <= -1 x >= 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its C right????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YES C as the word or means there is a gap between the two lines (the yellow section...) the word and means the two blue lines should meet up or join... Long story short. C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much for the help
