If one line has a slope of −3 and another has a slope of 2, which line is steeper? Why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By steeper, are you measuring the absolute gradient?

Parth (parthkohli):

Both kinds of lines are steep.

Parth (parthkohli):

So, they can go up or down, but what you have to measure is the 'steep-level'. You can do that by comparing the absolute values.

If one line has a slope of −3 and another has a slope of 2, which line is steeper? Why? slope with -3 is steeper it goes up 3 over 1 slope of 2 goes up 2 over 1 so even though -3 is negative it is still steeper this is what i had for the answer

Parth (parthkohli):

Yes.

Parth (parthkohli):

That is right.

Agree with Sharron.... line m=-3 is steeper as its change in y over change in x is more!
