Goodness, yes. The only way oxygen can dissolve in our blood to get to our cells is because the oxygen molecules can slip in between the space between the water molecules. If there were no space -- no holes in the water -- then there'd be no way for the oxygen to get in, and no way for oxygen to be transported by blood. Imagine all the things in our world that are solutions: none of them would be possible if there weren't space between atoms and molecules into which other atoms and molecules could fit.
