A gigantic gate to the entrance of a theme park in the shape of a parabola is constructed on a level ground. The horizontal distance between the end points of the gigantic gate is 20 meters. The maximum height of the gigantic gate from the ground is 5 meters. Calculate the height of the gigantic gate at a horizontal distance of 4 meters from one of the end points.

introduce a coordinate axis, then this will not be so bad we have a parabola with vertex \((0,5)\) and \(x\) intercepts at \((-10,0)\) and \((10,0)\) once we find the equation for the parabola we can replace \(x\) by \(4\) to answer the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you good from there or do you need more help to find the equation for the parabola?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks..thanks for the graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you are good from here then right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you want to solve it? its up to you

can you help me to solve it?
