To get his quickly, I would calculate the SA of the top rectangular solid and add it to SA of the bottom rectangular solid. From that I would subtract 2 X's the little piece where they are connected (which is a 3x3 flat area), because it doesn't appear in either the top or bottom surface area. SA of a rectangular solid is 2 (l*b*h)
