Explain whether the polynomials below are written in standard form. If not, use complete sentences to explain how to write the polynomial in standard form. (2 points each) 3a3b – 4ab2 + a2 –8x2y2 + 10xy4 – 6x2y For the second one. I am just a little confushed as in which one would be bigger the -8x2y2 or the 10xy4.. help please? thank you!

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

the one that has a bigger exponent for x should go first

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

for example you have x^2 y^3 + x^4 y + xy^4 the standard form should be x^4 y + x^2 y^3 + xy^4 ^descending exponents of x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am not following... for #2 that isnt already in standard form correct?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

yes. that isnt in standard form yet (neither is #1 but i suppose you're focusing on #2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh. I thought number 1 was in standard form already

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

nope.. like i said it should be in decreasing exponent of the first variable...in #1 the first variable is a...so the exponent of a should be decreasing from left to right

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

that means a^3 comes first..then a^2 then finally a so it would be \(3a^3 b + a^2 + 4ab^2\)

ohhh
