You must create a lesson that teaches another student how to solve the following inequality: –x + 3 > 7. Your main mission for this activity is to provide a detailed answer to the question below. Why must you flip the inequality symbol when you divide by a negative number? You know that if the symbol is not flipped you will end up with a false statement, but why is that so? Research and brainstorm (with your partner if you chose to do this collaboratively) to come up with this answer. Remember, you are teaching this to another student, so you must include detailed explanations, visual
Actually, if I were given the same question, I would ridicule it by stating that dividing by a negative number is never required when solving inequalities and I would introduce a different way of solving for x that doesn't require dividing by negatives or flipping signs.
ok
I take it that you're not interested in knowing the other "easier" method.
yes ido plz
Okay, well, I solve inequalities the same way I solve regular equations. If I had something like -2x + 8 = -16. I would simply add 2x to both sides, then add 16 to both sides to get 16 + 8 = 2x. Then, I would proceed from there to solve for x without having to worry about dividing by any negatives. Why? Because I hate dividing by negatives. Dividing by negatives is a completely unnecessary babit that is taught by teachers across America. It confuses students and leads to wrong answers and frustration. So for the given problem –x + 3 > 7 I would proceed the same way: Add x to both sides, then subtract 7 from both sides to get: -7 + 3 > x Now, I can reduce the right side to get -4 > x, which is the same as x < -4. Either way, I solved for x without having to divide by any negatives.
Which is much simpler and straightforward.
ur way
thanks hero
yw I have all kinds of "my way" of doing math problems. None of it is the traditional way that you were taught in school.
Did you just post two questions?
yup isee
yes
The same question twice? Why?
actually no sorry can u plz give me another example of how u did it plz
Let me do it this way: |dw:1345078737132:dw||dw:1345078791480:dw|
