√(-6) * √(-15) ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

root a times root b = root a times b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{-x} \times \sqrt{-y} = \sqrt{x \times y}\]

OpenStudy (experimentx):

not quite ... if you get something negative inside root ... don't expect real.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So we will use complex here..

OpenStudy (experimentx):

yep ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{-x} \times \sqrt{-y} \implies i \sqrt{x} \times i \sqrt{y} \implies i^2 \sqrt{xy} \implies - \sqrt{xy}\]

OpenStudy (experimentx):

yep!! when you multiply complex number ... the 'r' part get's multiplied ... while 'theta' part get's added.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you explain this r and theta concept more to me by taking an example ??
