(x5 y-7)(x-8 y9)-1 express in simplified form with no negative exponents. please show steps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you have \[(x ^{5}y ^{-7})(x ^{-8}y ^{9})^{-1}\] how to do this is with these rules \[x ^{n}*x ^{m}= x ^{n+m}\] and \[(x ^{n})^{m}= x ^{n*m}\] simplified you have \[(x ^{5}y ^{-7})(x ^{5}y ^{-9})\] since the negative one multiplies through and then \[x ^{10}y ^{-16}\] and finally a negative exponent in the numerator means it goes to the denominator so the final answer is \[x ^{10}/y^{16}\]
