add & simplify 4/x-8 +1/x-4 a: 5/x-4 b: 5/2x-4 c: 3x-8/x^2-12x+32 d: 5x-24/x^2-12x+32

OpenStudy (jim766):

are you sure it doesnt say +4 at the end of the problem?

OpenStudy (keana):

@Jim766 yes

OpenStudy (jim766):

I would seperate the terms that can go together 4/x - 8 + 1/x - 4 4/x + 1/x - 8 - 4 do you see what I did/

OpenStudy (keana):

@Jim766 kinda

OpenStudy (jim766):

I did really do anything I just rearranged their order. 4/x - 8 + 1/x - 4 4/x + 1/x - 8 - 4 4/x and 1/x have the same denominator, so I can just add them -8 and -4 are just numbers so I can combine them 5/x -12 is what I would get

OpenStudy (jim766):

but it doesnt match one of your choices.... if the problem said +4 at the end then the correct choice would be a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is something incorrect with your options

OpenStudy (keana):

@psi9epsilon i fixed D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

option d, is the correct answer multiply 4 with x-4 multiply 1 with x-8 add them , it will give you 5x-24 which is your numerator mutliply x-4 and x-8 and you will have x^2-12x+32

OpenStudy (keana):

@psi9epsilon oh . thanks !
