if it will make your life easier, imagine x = (a^2 + 1)^2 so do you know how to factor x^2 - 12x + 20?
(x-10)(x-2)
correct
and you can check by foiling that out. it checks out.
right...now change x into (a^2 + 1)

(i made a typo above it should be imagine x = a^2 + 1..there should be no square there)
