i * 1=1i ??

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

anything times one is itself, e.g.:\[x\times1=x\]\[7\times1=7\]therefore:\[i\times1=?\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiplying by 1 does not effect the result..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry.. @asnaseer he has written the answer there..

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

you don't normally write the answer in the form you have written @0mgl0la. for example you wouldn't write:\[x\times1=1x\]

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

because 1 is the "identity" operator under multiplication - which means it does not change the result if you multiply anything by it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I agree..

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

1x is correct - it's just not the "standard" way of writing this result

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

some more examples might help:\[x\times3=3x\]\[x\times2=2x\]\[x\times1=x\]

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

@0mgl0la - do you understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I do. Thank you.

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

yw :)
