I am having a hard time with a word problem here it is
Two major league player hits add up to 374. player Washington has 2 more hits than player Jones. how many hits does each player have.
I do not want just the answer, I want to know how to set up the problem so I can work it.

374 divided by 2 = 187

washington = 188
jones = 186
